Reader’s Question:
My college classmates and I are planning to go on a rod trip and visit Mexico. We’ve never been to that place and we heard that Mexican food are delicious most especially there tacos and burritos! Imagining those food makes me wanna go to Mexico now! But before we go driving around in another country I just wanna know some information about international car insurance for young people like us. Thanks for the help!

Before you go ahead with your road trip to another country it’s best to check first with their embassy whether you need to purchase international car insurance for young people like your group or your car insurance is enough to provide you coverage while you’re out of the U.S.
From what I know, although you can drive legally in Mexico (since your U.S. license is valid there) your U.S. auto insurance is not at all. However, there are some auto insurance companies which extend their coverage within a specified distance from the boarder but this alone does not meet the requirements of Mexico auto insurance requirements.
If you will be driving to Mexico through renting a car, in most cases, car rental companies also offer international car insurance. However, mostly the auto insurance coverage being offered is less than what is required by the country you are visiting and less than the coverage your existing auto insurance policy has.
You can purchase international car insurance for young people before your trip or when you’ve reached Mexico. From what I know, you can purchase Mexico auto insurance at the boarder or by using the websites. Also, there are several firms in San Diego which offers Mexico car insurance policy.
Enjoy your vacation and have a safe trip!
