Reader’s Question:
My mom agrees to buy me a car. However, I’ll need to pay for the insurance. Where can I get a young driver car insurance quote? What information do I need to give and is it necessary that I have a job?

It’s good that you are taking the first step in becoming a car owner. Car insurance is very important since it could take care of your liabilities in case of your-fault accidents. Anyway, a young driver car insurance quote can be obtained through the Internet, as you’ve probably guessed by now. The question is, where on the Internet? What you can do is to search for insurance companies or agencies providing multiple quotes. The latter is better because they provide more young driver car insurance quote with only one set of information.
As for what type of information you will need to give them, it depends on how accurate the rates are. There are sites that will only ask you for your age, car type and model, any driving violations (which you may not have at this point), and the type of coverage you will want for your vehicle. The quotes will be ready right after that. There are other sites wherein five sets of information are necessary. Additional information includes your address, phone number,
email address and other personal information. It’s up to you which kind of agency you’d want to use.
Do you need a job to get insurance? Technically, no. It’s not customary for insurance companies to inquire about their insured’s source of income when calculating for young driver car insurance quote. It’s understood that the driver will have a source of income to pay for his insurance. In your case, if you have to pay for the insurance and your allowance won’t be enough, then, getting a job is a good idea. Think of it as a good exchange for owning a car.
Anyway, you can also ask your mom where she gets her insurance. You could probably get a discount if you buy from the same company.
